The Caring.com Scholarship

Student-caregivers who are still in high school are welcome to apply for the Caring.com Scholarship. Eligible high school applicants must be full-time students and be registered to attend a two-or-four year college or university the semester following their application. Other eligibility requirements include:

  • Applicants must be citizens or Permanent Residents of the United States.
  • Applicants cannot be on academic disciplinary status.
  • Must not be related to or living with any employees of or Caring, LLC.

South Dakota Board of Regents Bjugstad Scholarship

The Ardell Bjugstad Scholarship Program for Native American students was established by the family of Ardell Bjugstad of Rapid City.  Bjugstad, who died in 1990, was a range scientist with the U.S. Forest Service for 20 years, an adjunct professor with South Dakota State University, South Dakota School of Mines & Technology and Oglala Lakota College. He was a strong advocate for young American Indians working to educate themselves and he also worked closely with Oglala Lakota College in mentoring Native American students into the U.S. Forest Service.
 
This scholarship endowment provides support for freshman Native American students who are pursuing studies in agribusiness, agricultural production, agricultural sciences or a natural resources degree at any postsecondary institution​

West Central Electric Scholarships

The West Central Electric Cooperative Scholarship program is a program developed and designed to encourage and recognize the academic achievements of the children of West Central Electric Cooperative members.

West River/Lyman-Jones Rural Water Scholarship
  • Four $500 scholarships (system wide) will be awarded.
  • Can be used at a 2 year vocational/technical school or at a 4 year college.
  • Money will be paid to the student subsequent to high school graduation.
Applicant:
  1. You must be a child of a member of WR/LJ Rural Water or enrolled in one of the seven service area school districts and will be eligible for graduation this spring.
  2. All fields or careers will be considered.

Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation

Applicants must be the child of one of the following:

  • Active duty, reserve, or veteran U.S. Marine*
  • A Marine killed while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps
  • Active duty, reserve, or veteran U.S. Navy Corpsman who is/was attached to a U.S. Marine unit*
  • A Navy Corpsman attached to a Marine unit that was killed while serving in the U.S. Navy

*Veterans must have received an honorable discharge. A discharge status of other, general,  under honorable conditions, dishonorable, etc. are not eligible for an award.

Additionally, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • GPA of at least 2.00 (on a 4.00 scale)
  • Family adjusted gross income for the 2018 tax year that does not exceed $100,000. Non-taxable allowances are not included in the adjusted gross income
  • Attending or planning to attend a college or career training school listed on the National Center for Education Statistic’s College Navigator website in the 2019-20 academic year.

Insuring a Brighter Tomorrow ScholarshipNew

Insuring a Brighter Tomorrow Scholarship

Twenty-five high school seniors from across the state who plan to continue post-secondary education at a college, university, or technical school in the state of South Dakota will each receive $1,000. The scholarships are funded with support from Farmers Union Insurance agents in South Dakota and the South Dakota Farmers Union Foundation. It's part of the Farmers Union Insurance difference and our commitment to the next generation of youth. 

Eligibility 

South Dakota high school seniors seeking funds to attend a South Dakota college, university, or technical school.

Open to Farmers Union Insurance Policyholders, South Dakota Farmers Union Members, Friends of the SDFU Foundation (defined as a contribution of $25 or more during the past year), or a Participant in any South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA) sanctioned activity.

Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation Scholarships

Several awards are available to students statewide, including two of SFACF’s most recognized scholarships. The Joe Foss “An American Hero” Scholarship honors students who demonstrate characteristics of an American patriot, and the Fred and Marie Christopherson Scholarship highlights high school seniors who plan to continue their education at a college or university in South Dakota.

Golden West Telecommunications Scholarship

Golden West Telecommunications offers a one-time, $1,000 scholarship to students who's parents/legal guardian reside within one of the Golden West service areas and subscribe to a Golden West service (phone, internet and/or cable tv). Forty-five awards will be given, one for each of the high schools within the service area.

JONES COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS - only 1 student from Jones County will receive.  Completed applications due to Mrs. Valburg by March 15, 2019.  DO NOT mail to Golden West.  Applications can also be found in the library.

The Bellator Titans Motorcycle Club

The Bellator Titans Motorcycle Club is excited to announce the availability of a $1,500 scholarship to an applicant who is in need of financial assistance. This is our seventh year presenting this scholarship and are looking for high school seniors who will be freshmen at any post-secondary intuition of higher learning. Applicants need to plan to attend an in-state post-secondary school in order to apply for the scholarship. Applicant does not need to be top of their class, but the committee is searching for students who are hardworking and motivated to succeed. 

Eligibility Requirements

  • South Dakota resident
  • A Senior going into their first year of post-secondary education in South Dakota

South Dakota Fire Service Scholarship

The South Dakota Firefighters Association, South Dakota Firefighters Association Auxiliary and the Dear Old Timers Organization (DOT) are offering two $1000 scholarships to two high school students to assist in their higher education.

Eligibility Requirements:
1. A Son or daughter of any member (living, deceased or retired) of a fire department in South Dakota or an active member of a junior fire department in South Dakota.
2. A high school senior or student entering their first semester of college.
3. The applicant must be sponsored by a fire department that has 100% membership in the SD Firefighters Association for the current year.
4. The applicant may also be sponsored by a member of the SD Firefighters Auxiliary, a local fire department auxiliary or a member of the Dear Old Timers.
5. The scholarship may be used at any university, college or Post-Secondary institution (Vo-Tech.) Preference will be given to those who are obtaining a fire science or emergency service degree.

Build Dakota Scholarship

The Build Dakota Scholarships is awarded to skilled scholars entering high-need workforce programs at South Dakota technical institutes.

  • Both in-state students and out-of-state students are eligible for the scholarships.
  • Enroll full-time in a technical institute program determined as a high-need workforce area in South Dakota.
  • The scholarships will support tuition, fees, books and other required program expenses in the eligible technical institute programs.
  • Recipients of the scholarships will commit to living and working in the state, in their field of study, for three years following graduation

South Dakota Association of Towns & Townships Scholarship

The South Dakota Association of Towns & Townships is offering one $500 and one $1000 scholarship to senior high school students who complies with the following: 

  • Must be a graduate of the class of 2019 
  • Must attend a South Dakota public, private, parochial high school or a home school program
  • Must reside in a town or township who is a current member of SDATAT (Click the following link to see if your town or township is a member: towntownshipmembers.pdf)
  • The student must use the scholarship for a college, university, or vocational school which has a physical presence in South Dakota.

Scavenger's Journey Scholarship

The Corporation will award a $250 scholarship to a South Dakota High School graduate, resiging in one of the participating towns of Scaventer's Journey Inc., and attending a South Dakota university or techinical school pursuing a business major.

South Dakota Opportunity Scholarship

​The South Dakota Opportunity Scholarship provides up to $6,500 over four years to a qualifying student who attends an eligible higher education institution in South Dakota.  Recipients may participate in the South Dakota Opportunity Scholarship program for the equivalent of four academic years (eight consecutive fall and spring terms), or until attaining a baccalaureate degree.  Eligibility requirements and application can be found here https://sdos.sdbor.edu/
